When it comes to travel and transportation, Malaysia is a very busy country, with many people travelling from one city to another, some for work, and others for sight-seeing. Either way, getting from one place in Malaysia to another has become very important and people look at details such as price, time and comfort when choosing the transportation mean.
Traveling by train has not always been the fastest or easiest way of travelling in Malaysia, but now, thanks to the introduction of the KTMB high-speed ETS Train, the perspective on train travel has changed radically. ETS trains are clean and modern, with a stylish look and many useful amenities, such as air-conditioning, food and beverage service. But probably the most looked-for feature in trains is speed; we all want to travel fast and get to the destination as soon as possible. So ETS trains came as the perfect solution for this, covering the same distance twice as fast compared to the older Intercity trains and reaching speeds of up to 160km/h.
If you’re looking to take the train from Penang to KL or vice versa, there is a high-speed ETS solution for you too. Actually, there are quite a few solutions, if we think about it. The first thing you need to know when opting for ETS from Butterworth Penang to Kuala Lumpur is that you can choose from three types of services: Silver, Gold and Platinum. There are two main differences between these ETS services: if compared to the Silver service that stops at every train station along the way, Gold is a limited stopping train, Platinum stops in even fewer train stations, therefore, Platinum is more time efficient and takes less time than the Gold service to arrive at destination. It will probably come as no surprise that the quality of the service is proportional to the cost of the trip. But even so, if you value your time the most, it will definitely be worth it! When going for the Silver service, you can choose between Economy and Superior Class.
Trains leave KTMB Butterworth Penang and head to KL Sentral train station in Kuala Lumpur daily, at different times. The first train leaves at 5:00 AM, perfect for those travelling for work. There are also trains leaving at 7:00 AM, 8:00 AM, 15:00 (03:00 PM) and 17:43 (05:43 PM), with the last train leaving Butterworth Penang at 18:58 (06:58 PM).
Depending on the type of service and class, prices will vary: 32.00-33.00 MYR for adults and 20.00-21.00 for children in Superior Class; 57.00-59.00 MYR for adults and 33.00-34.00 MYR for children if you choose the ETS Gold Service; 77.00-79.00 MYR for adults and 43.00-44.00 MYR for children if you choose the ETS Platinum Service. As you can see prices go higher, as the trip becomes shorter and the number of stops between departure and destination becomes smaller.
